Uterine Fibroid Embolization

Uterine Fibroid Embolization

Uterine fibroid embolization is a minimally invasive treatment for symptomatic uterine fibroids without requiring surgery or removing the uterus. The procedure is performed without incisions through a small catheter in either the wrist artery or the groin artery, which is directed in the artery to the uterus using x-rays. Small particles are injected into the fibroid arteries and cause the fibroids to shrink while preserving the normal uterus. This procedure has a 90% success rate in eliminating the symptoms of fibroids including heavy bleeding, pain, pelvic pressure, urinary frequency, and dyspareunia.
